Patch 16.8
Last patch we made some changes to Karma to reduce how generically powerful she was by reducing her midgame shield strength. Unfortunately those weren’t as effective as we had intended so we’re taking another swing at Karma by directly targeting her E power and reducing her base stats a tad so she is more reliant on skillful and intentional ability usage.
Patch 16.7
Karma has been a force to be reckoned with in high-skill support play for some time now. We think Karma's strong early game is healthy, but we're tuning down her midgame shields to be less inspiring, as it's the only ability actually worth empowering and her enchanter builds far outperform her mage ones. This change should bring her Mantra options closer to equilibrium!
Patch 15.6
Q base damage decreased.
Karma has quickly risen the ranks to become arguably the strongest mage-enchanter support in the game. We're very happy that she's returned from the depths of non-viability, but she needs to perform a bit worse to give other supports a fighting chance. These nerfs will affect her most common Q-max build by weakening her early laning phase, while also nerfing her sleeper-OP E-max build by being a more potent nerf at lower ranks.
Patch 14.12
E (Inspire) shield value increased, bonus movement speed duration increased. E (Defiance) bonus shield value increased, bonus movement speed duration increased.
Karma is still quite weak, but as her strongest role is currently support, we have a lot of room to buff her without mid lane Karma becoming problematic. We're still being cautious, though, and focusing on her supportive aspects, namely stronger shielding and better bonus movement, regardless of who she targets.
Patch 14.7
W root duration decreased at lower ranks. R+E AoE shield increased.
Karma’s changes last patch landed very close to our goal, but we still want to do a little more to preserve her support power level. In order to do this, we’re decoupling her E ranks from the Mantra-E numbers to make it more in-line with the rest of her abilities, and make it less punishing if you don’t dump skill points into E. These changes should net around a 20-25% increase in shielding to her secondary targets through Mantra-E.
Patch 14.6
Mana growth decreased, mana regeneration growth increased. Passive cooldown refund decreased. Q mana cost increased. R cooldown increased, E+R bonus shield increased.
Right now Karma is a reasonably powerful support but an oppressive mid laner who makes it difficult to do anything against her in the mid game. We want Mantra to be a button that she has to consider when to press and think of the best situations to use it. With Karma’s easy access to Ultimate Haste, that strategic choice has lost value as she’s casting Mantra too frequently. We have some nerfs to address this, but plan to offset these for support Karma by shifting her toward mana regen and including a buff to Defiance to preserve its current power level.
Patch 14.3
R+Q Soulflare damage decreased.
Karma’s currently a bit too good as a triple flex option, with the ability to succeed in top, mid, and support. With her newfound power from Malignance, her ultimate is now on too short of a cooldown for the damage it provides, so we’ll be taking her R+Q explosion damage down a notch.
Patch 13.16
Q AP scaling increased, ultimate Q AP scaling increased. R cooldown decreased.
Karma isn’t quite hitting the bar when it comes to scaling offensively as she often has to rely on her shields or her less reliable W to contribute in fights post-laning phase. With these changes we’re looking to give Karma some more reliance on her Q come late game (as AP increases) and give her more reason to Mantra Q.
Patch 11.18
Base armor increased. E base shield increased.
Karma's changes in 11.16 were effective at reducing her dominance in Pro play while avoiding major nerfs to her everywhere else. Since she's been on the weaker side overall, we're upping her winrate across the board with some generic buffs. She really does always catch up, huh?
Patch 11.16
Passive on-hit cooldown reduction removed; cooldown reduction from abilities now flat. Q base damage decreased early; cooldown increased early and decreased later; cost decreased. Q2 initial damage increased. E base shield increased later; bonus movement speed now flat; Defiance now only grants allies bonus movement speed.
Karma’s been much stronger in coordinated Pro play than in solo queue for a while. Rather than continuing to make minor changes, we're attempting to make bigger ones to help Karma succeed in the hands of all players. To do so, we’re targeting her consistent early game pressure and waveclear, along with her R-E shield-and-speed buff for her full team. In return, we’re rewarding her with more Mantras when she lands abilities on champions, which will also be helped by her Q’s lower cooldown and cost. We’re also strengthening her R-Q so that she’s still able to obliterate her foes when she’s on her own.
Patch 11.14
Base attack damage decreased.
Karma has risen in the ranks of Pro play as a safe top or mid pick that scales well with other carries. We’re drawing back her solo lane power by lowering her ability to consistently harass and push waves against short-ranged enemies.
Patch 11.5
Q cooldown decreased.
Despite buffs in patch 11.3, support Karma is still in low spirits. We took a look at some of the more recent changes to her and are reigniting her fire by partially reverting the nerfs from 10.16.
Patch 11.3
Base mana regen increased. Q cost decreased.
Bringing good karma to support Karma.
Patch 11.1
E shield strength increased late.
Karma has been a little too weak since the preseason changes, so we're amping up her durability.
