Patch 16.7
Veigar has often been at the threshold of being considered overpowered in bot lane, and he's been maintaining enough of a play rate there that it's time to step in. One thing different between bot Veigar and mid Veigar is his scaling nature. In bot, he's actually even more of a snowball champion than in mid where his win rate steadily climbs over game time. So we're blunting that early-mid spike with a cooldown nerf that his mid players aren't as reliant upon and can more easily outscale.
Patch 15.20
Veigar's been coming up a bit short of success as of late, so to help our resident miniature king we're upping his W's AP ratio so he can take more advantage of his infinite AP scaling to pop enemies he catches with a well placed Event Horizon.
Patch 14.20
W damage decreased.
When gold became less valuable last patch, champions like Veigar who got their power from other sources understandably got much stronger, which is why he’s receiving a nerf. We’d like to close the gap between lower and higher MMR performances when doing this. Dark Matter is generally quite easy to dodge for higher-skilled players, so by lowering its impact, we can disproportionately nerf him in lower MMRs where he’s performing much better.
Patch 14.5
Q damage increased. R cooldown decreased.
Season 14 nerfed Rabadon’s Deathcap’s AP multiplier, and we’ve generally lowered the AP ratios on items, which haven’t been the kindest to Veigar. Despite our efforts in Patch 14.2 he’s still coming up a bit short compared to where we’d like him to be in terms of power. In this patch we’ll be giving him a small buff to his Q to help it hit a little harder and easier to stack with, while also giving him a bit more threat with his ultimate in the earlier stages of the game.
Patch 13.7
Q AP ratio now scales with level. W AP ratio now scales with level. E VFX adjusted. R AP ratio now scales with level.
Veigar has been strong in the bot lane for a very long time because his relatively bad wave control and good gank set up fit better into the duo lane dynamic than mid. However we still feel most Veigar players want to play him in mid, and we want to support that as his primary role. We are taking this opportunity to nerf him in a way that pushes his scaling to be more level dependent, which biases towards solo lanes.
Patch 13.6
Base health decreased, base armor decreased. W base damage decreased.
With great range comes great responsibility power. Veigar is standing tall in mid lane, but even taller in bot lane. With his huge spike in popularity, he's actually become a relatively common bot laner with extremely high win rates. Unfortunately, we can't have him be head and shoulders above the competition, so we're cutting him down to size by reducing his early all-in power, which is much more consistent when paired with a support.
Patch 13.4
Q range increased. W range increased.
Veigar is a bit short on the winrate. While buffing his damage could definitely return him to his former glory, we want to avoid situations where Veigar outplays his opponents with a masterful Q+R display of skill. Instead, we're giving the immobile mage a bit more leeway when farming and poking around dangerous enemies. He'll still have to risk himself for big Event Horizons or Primordial Burst, but this should give him some nice breathing room in other situations.
Patch 12.11
Base armor decreased and armor growth increased. E cooldown increased.
We're targeting Veigar's level scaling by limiting access on his E. This should bring his team fight control back to reasonable heights, especially in late game after he gets some Ability Haste.
Patch 12.4
Base armor decreased; armor growth increased. E cooldown increased early.
Veigar is standing head-and-shoulders above the competition. His shadow is especially tall in bot lane, so we’re adjusting his scaling in a way that’ll impact him more in bot lane than in mid.
Patch 12.2
Q cooldown decreased; stacks from large monsters and minions increased.
The tiny master of evil has been less threatening than usual as of late. We're upping the rate on his Phenomenal Evil stacks so that he can stand above his competitors in the mid lane. (Figuratively speaking, at least.)
Patch 11.4
Q cost decreased. R cooldown decreased later.
Veigar has fallen a little short of other mid laners in 2021. Giving him a boost so he can stand face-to-face with the competition.
