Patch 16.4
You've seen it, we've seen it. We've revisited Ryze's ult and an unintuitive interaction causing champions to not warp when they'd otherwise expect to. This was an intentional mechanic that aimed to anticipate players' needs but as time has gone on, this predictive help has caused more confusion than it's worth.
Patch 16.3
Ryze has risen up the ranks this season and is due for a reduction in power. While we're nerfing Phase Rush, we're also buffing Actualizer so we think he deserves a direct nerf in this patch. With his late game damage going up and the overall game being more lethal than we'd like, we're reducing some late game damage in kind.
Patch 15.14
Ryze is still sitting as one of the top mages, and isn't reliant on augments. These changes hope to hit some of his utility and damage without gutting his identity as Mr. Mana.

W damage increased, and mana cost adjusted.
Ryze is currently stronger than he ought to be and risks taking over the mid lane pool at MSI this year, so we're delivering a small nerf to his early laning phase where his opponents don't have much room for counterplay.

Ryze has lost a lot from recent itemization changes, and could use a boost. Giving him some power centered around his level 6 spike to enable him to get out there and make some plays. W - Rune Prison
Patch 14.17
Q damage increased. R cooldown decreased.
Ryze isn’t performing very well—he scales well but is weak early, and while he shouldn’t be too good there he could use more agency. So we’re giving him some extra Q damage to help him trade and clear a bit better, and reducing how harsh his ultimate’s cooldown is to make room for more sick plays and to give players more opportunities to learn this atypical spell.

W slow increased, cooldown decreased early.
We're giving Ryze some power tailored to the average player by giving him access to a more reliable slow with a lower cooldown, which should bring up his baseline utility to his teams.
Patch 13.12
Passive bonus mana increased. E magic damage increased, missile speed increased.
Ryze is currently one of the weakest mid laners in the game with no presence in Pro. Since he has some room for buffs now, we're looking to give his passive and E a ratio increase in order to improve his scaling, which is a lower-risk buff for Pro play than other options. We're also giving a small speed increase to his E, as this will help in close-up fights.

Ryze hasn't been the Pro Play terror that earned him his notoriety, so we're putting some magic power into his kit that will increase the potency of his full AP builds.
Patch 12.11
E AP ratio increased, mana cost decreased.
We're loosening up some of Ryze's mana restrictions so his spellcasting is a little more forgiving while he's scaling up. We understand that this isn’t going to resolve all of the issues he’s currently facing, but this should help make him a little less blue while we look into new ways to make Ryze feel good in solo queue without dominating pro play.
Patch 12.7
Q damage AP ratio increased; bonus mana ratio decreased.
Ryze's tank builds make him a safe yet potent split pusher by allowing him to stack health while dealing carry levels of damage, making him particularly lethal in Pro play. The mid-patch 12.5 nerfs didn't quite do the job at refining his hypercarry identity, so we're shifting his mana scaling to incentivize him to build a few more AP items before stacking health items like Winter’s Approach (which will also be receiving nerfs this patch) .

Q AP ratio reduced. E cooldown increased.
Ryze has risen above the other mid laners in most regions. We're nerfing his overall output to ensure he doesn't completely dominate at Worlds.
Patch 11.11
Base health growth increased.
With the preseason item changes (aka losing Rod of Ages and Seraph’s Embrace’s shield) and patch 11.10’s nerf to Phase Rush, Ryze lost movement speed and health, leaving him feeling blue. We’re padding up his defenses to put some color back in his cheeks.
