Patch 16.2
Master Yi has been struggling as a result of the changes in the new season. We’re looking to return some of his power so that he can keep up with other junglers and better live up to his full hyper carry potential.
Patch 15.24
Master Yi is another powerful champion who's been dominating the jungle as of late. To level the playing field we're bringing down his durability and damage a bit split between the early and late game as we're currently happy with his overall combat and game pacing.
Patch 15.17
Base Health decreased. Q damage decreased.
Our fixes for Master Yi Q applying Kraken and Terminus were understandably buffs to Yi. We're looking to reduce his built in on-hit build potency now that the system works in his favor and make his early game more exploitable in order to bring him down to size.
Patch 15.16
Q now stacks Kraken Slayer and Terminus
When Kraken Slayer first came out, we excluded Alpha Strike from stacking it but as it’s no longer a mythic item, those burst damage concerns aren’t nearly as pressing, so we’re enabling the item synergy and making Terminus also stack on each of these pseudo-attacks.
Patch 15.15
Q damage reduced for low AD builds.
As with Bel’Veth, Master Yi was a big winner from Blade of the Ruined King’s and Kraken Slayer’s buffs so we need to take him down a peg to remain balanced. We’re taking down some of his Alpha Strike burst in low-AD builds in order to put his higher AD crit builds closer to high AS on-hit builds.
Patch 15.6
Armor growth decreased. Q critical strike damage increased.
Master Yi has several built in on-demand defensive options, meaning the times where he is attackable he should probably be more vulnerable at a base stat level. We're targeting his armor growth to make sure these periods of vulnerability are more clearly weak points for his opponents to go after him. Additionally, we're increasing the Bonus Crit Damage Ratio on Alpha Strike to allow crit Master Yi to be more viable for the Crit Yi enjoyers out there.
Patch 15.2
Attack Damage growth increased. E damage increased.
Master Yi is weak, so we're giving him some generic buffs to help out his sustained damage.
Patch 14.24
Q critical strike scaling increased.
We're buffing critical strike on Master Yi this patch with the primary goal of re-introducing crit as an alternate build. We intend, and expect, his primary build to still be on-hit, which isn't being touched with this buff, so this is for everyone who enjoys item builds from 2009. We're also delivering a small change that makes it more apparent what your total damage to an enemy is.
Patch 14.23
R bonus attack speed increased.
Master Yi is just a touch weak after Blade of the Ruined King's nerfs, so we're giving him a bit more of that late-game carry power that he's known for. We want to make sure Highlander feels like the high point of his power, so we're amping up the amount of attack speed it gives Yi.
Patch 14.12
Q bonus damage to monsters decreased. W initial damage reduction decreased, cooldown increased.
We slightly overshot Master Yi's buffs last patch, and with the goal to nudge him toward being a strong beginner jungler, this round of nerfs is targeted mostly at his more difficult and Elite-skewed outputs like the short-duration damage reduction on Meditate.
Patch 14.11
Base Health growth, armor growth, Attack damage growth, and attack speed growth have all increased.
Master Yi was over-nerfed back in 14.9 and then lost a bit more with Lethal Tempo's removal. For a long time, Yi has had suppressed base stat growth as a way to make him weaker in lower-level play. We'd like to undo some of that suppression, so we're adding in a solid amount of power that will specifically be felt by more relatively inexperienced players.
Patch 13.21
E cooldown decreased.
Master Yi hasn't been having a good time this past patch due to the AD jungle changes so we'll be giving him back some power. Our goal with these changes is to increase his strength as an auto attacker above all else.
Patch 12.19
AD growth decreased. E AD scaling decreased.
Master Yi's been a top tier jungler at all skill brackets after his recent changes which means we’ve succeeded in our original goal! Now that he has more creative ways to stay alive with perfect Meditates and slippery Alpha Strikes, he's doing a bit too much damage. We’re taking down his damage a bit now that he’s staying alive long enough to do more.
Patch 12.15
E cooldown no longer decreases with rank.
Master Yi has been doing pretty well with the last set of changes, achieving a relatively equal win rate across various skill levels of play. He’s still a bit stronger than we’d like him to be so we’re taking down his access to his E and true damage, especially in cases where Yi is opting to max E first.
Patch 12.13
Attack range increased. Q adjusted. W cooldown reduced, mana cost adjusted, damage reduction increased, lingering damage reduction adjusted.
Master Yi has always been a champ that is strong at lower levels of play, but not-so-great in higher skill brackets. We’ve been keeping our eyes on Yi after our last set of nerfs and now feel like we can give him some power back in a way that helps reduce this skew. Since Yi is pretty dependent on being durable in higher brackets of play, we’re giving him more ways to increase his survivability in fights.
Patch 12.11
HP growth decreased. E base true damage on-hit decreased.
It turns out that when a tanky champion can deal true damage, it's a little strong. We're taking down Yi's durability and true damage, which both greatly benefited from the Durability Update.
Patch 12.9
R bonus attack speed reduced.
The Wuju Bladesman has gotten a little too fast at killing his enemies, especially in late game. We're reducing his DPS scaling to slow him down and give his foes a chance to keep up.
Patch 12.5
Q damage and bonus crit damage decreased; each mark now applies on-hit effects; on-hit cooldown reduction now scales with Ability Haste. E and R now pause during his Q and both can now be activated during Q. E base damage decreased late.
Master Yi’s Duskblade builds have been a bit strong recently, but more importantly are both frustrating to play against and unhealthy for gameplay. We’re decreasing his Q's synergy with lethality and Ability Haste and instead adding on-hit scaling so the Wuju Bladesman is forced to show himself while fighting.
Patch 11.11
Q damage ratio decreased.
Yi’s Mythic of choice is often Duskblade, which gears his playstyle to focus on Q damage and resets. Although Duskblade makes sense in certain situations, it can lead to low-counterplay gameplay that orients him away from what he does best—slicing down foes with basic attacks—so we’re shifting power around to buff those builds.
Patch 11.5
E base damage increased.
With the last set of nerfs in patch 11.1 and jungle changes, Master Yi had found himself in a tough spot. Putting the alpha in his strike to help all his builds and playstyles, especially those more reliant on attack speed.
Patch 11.1
Q cooldown increased later.
Master Yi is too powerful in Average play, so we're bumping down the amount of time he's invulnerable in team fights.
