Patch 16.2
Malphite
Malphite’s been a frontrunner on the Rift for a while, both in top and in the jungle. We’re actually very happy that he’s found a real audience in the jungle! That said, he’s still overperforming, so we need to bring him down now while still leaving him with two roles to play. To do that, we’re reducing some of his trading and clearing damage while retaining his high durability to physical damage and strong engage power. We’re also hitting jungle a little more as it’s meant to be slightly weaker than his top lane, as opposed to slightly stronger, which is currently the case.
Patch 15.23
Malphite
Malphite has a natural jungle kit with a decent gank paradigm, and repeatable damage for killing monsters. He just doesn't deal enough right now to comfortably clear, so we're juicing both his early game clear (hint hint start W!) and late-game as well, since he often builds full tank and needs his damage to keep up with growth monster health.
Patch 15.20
Malphite
Malphite's a solid top laner and a consistent rock for his teams, but even so he is often a bit heavy for his teams. We're giving him a little help this patch by increasing his base armor just a bit to solidify his early game.
Patch 14.21
Malphite
Base health increased.
For being a rather easy champion, Malphite is a bit under where we’d like him to be. Because of this we want to slightly bump him up, increasing his base health as he’s a bit lower than many of his tank counterparts.
Patch 14.18
Malphite
Passive shield strength increased.
Malphite has fallen off a bit throughout the year and as a straightforward and very easy to pilot tank, he’s meant to be quite appealing for a variety of situations. Due to this, we’re giving him some more power in hopes that he enters the pantheon of viable tank picks. To get there we’ll be returning his passive shield value to its former glory in order to make League’s oldest tank just that extra bit rock solid.
Patch 13.8
Malphite
W empowered attack damage decreased, cleave damage armor scaling decreased.
We'll cut the rock puns for now, Malphite's been more than just a solid top laner since his buffs in 13.4. The cooldown and damage buffs to Thunderclap greatly increased his ability to trade and push waves at near-infinite uptime come late game. Malphite could use some added weight to his abilities late game, but the amount of damage he delivers is on the high end for a tank, especially when maxed first. So we’re reeling in his damage a bit and hopefully evening out Malphite's skill ordering.
Patch 13.4
Malphite
W cooldown decreased, armor scaling on W attacks increased.
Malphite's sustained damage as a tank juggernaut is fairly underwhelming at the moment. So we’re aiming to keep his damage relevant throughout the game and allow him to have higher uptime on W for more powerful auto resets throughout a longer fight.
Patch 12.23
Malphite
E base damage increased, armor scaling increased, mana cost no longer increases with rank.
Malphite has had a chip on his shoulder ever since we nerfed his waveclear by taking away his ability to rush Immolate. We’re adding some waveclear power back into his kit in a way that will reward tank builds without over-buffing his AP builds.
Patch 12.19
Malphite
W AP scaling increased. R AP scaling increased.
Malphite is a rock. Rocks are nature. Nature is magical. Therefore, Malphite should be magical. We’re buffing AP Malphite so he has a bit of extra power to finish off opponents that somehow survive his ultimate.
Patch 12.16
Malphite
Passive cooldown decreased early. W cooldown now decreases with rank.
Malphite’s currently stuck between himself and a hard place in the top lane. We’re giving him some more early game durability by bringing down his passive cooldowns and giving him some rock solid damage gains in the mid and late game in the form of more Thunderclaps.
Patch 11.12
Malphite
W on-hit damage increased.
Malphite’s been feeling more rock-soft than solid. Combined with Bramble Vest’s nerf in patch 11.11, he’s hit rock bottom. To buff up his trading in lane, we’re amping up the thunder in his claps so that he can hit like the ton of bricks he is.
