Kassadin's been having a great time now that he's able to stack multiple Tear of the Goddess items. Seriously, get on the Seraph's + Muramana train! But because this newfound power has taken him over the edge, we need to appropriately balance him. We want to preserve his high late game damage and mobile scaling fantasy, but we want to balance those strengths with appropriate weaknesses once he gets there.

Kassadin has been a bit stagnant and below where we'd like him to be for resting win-rate, and his pick-rate is similarly declining. We're looking to enhance some of his late game damage output to encourage the high risk/high reward scaling playstyle that his players enjoy. Q - Null Sphere

We are unhappy with the degree of Kassadin's current power curve, as he has been feeling a bit too weak in early game for most players while gaining a massive amount of power if allowed to by the 30 minute mark. Looking to relax his curve some, while still ensuring that players feel like level 16 is a high moment.

Kassadin was a big winner from our recent reductions to early game snowball and is now too strong, so we're nerfing him. We think his early game is appropriate but that his ratios should continue to go down given AP’s new strength, so we’re targeting his Q and E ratios while preserving damage that requires him to be in melee range.

Kassadin, like other scaling champions, benefitted from reduced snowballing in the game and can use some toning down. We decided to reduce the damage on his E and R, because now that he scales more consistently, he gets to access these high AP ratios which allow him to reliably deal a significant amount of damage. This adjustment is intended to require him to stack more R's before having as much upfront damage.

We've seen players ask about Kassadin's state after his accidental buff back in 13.15 and wanted to take some time here to address this. While the change wasn't intended, we were aware of this change immediately after it went live and decided that we are comfortable with his new power level.

E base damage decreased, cooldown reduction from nearby casts decreased. R base damage decreased, bonus damage per stack decreased.
Even after his nerfs last patch Kassadin continues to Kassawin. These nerfs are targeting two of his core strengths: his ability to trade effectively in the early game and his ability to spam his E in the late game. So we’re bringing down the power on both of these to help bring him back into line.

We’re giving Kassadin some quality of life updates to his shield so he can perform better into ranged matchups. We’re also adjusting his E so that you can now cast it whenever you want (as long as it isn’t on cooldown)!

Kassadin has typically found play as a counter pick into mages, so we want to lean into that by giving him some additional power going into those tough matchups. Now he should be able to find some success and get those Kassawins.

Since the nerf on his passive in 11.24b, Kassadin has been noticeably weak. We're re-emphasizing his strength as the counter-mage mage by buffing his active abilities rather than his always-on passive.
